Anxiety
Depression
Relationships

The root of anxiety and related issues is often linked to the fear of the "unknown." Oftentimes, this "unknown" has to do with the future and we find ourself living in the world of our future, instead of the present moment. While there are several approaches to treating anxiety, one approach I prefer to use is finding ways of managing symptoms of anxiety through relaxation techniques. I also assist clients  in discovering patterns of thoughts and behaviors contributing to the distress.

Depression is one of the most common mental health issues people face. It includes a set of symptoms including depressed mood, sleep difficulty, and a lack of energy which could interfere with work, school and relationships. At times, people with depression are often living in their past, and the goals of treatment include being more mindful and present-focused. This could be achieved via mindfulness-based practices, as well as exploring the different cognitions, behaviors, and emotions at play that could be maintaining the depression cycle.

Perhaps you are looking to explore how you approach others in either effective or ineffective ways. Maybe you are seeking further information about your role in friendships, with romantic partners, family members, or coworkers. Exploring these relational dynamics is crucial in understanding not only how you function within a relationship, but also what you bring into the relationship. This type of treatment approach includes self-exploration in addition to learning effective interpersonal strategies to assist you in addressing interpersonal distress with others.

Trauma
Work Stress
Grief

Past traumatic experiences have a large impact on how you currently function. Regardless of the type of trauma, it is important to acknowledge the time and space it has taken in your life and decide how you want to move forward. Do you want these experiences to continue to drive your decision making, or are your ready to take the steps to address how the trauma is affecting you? If so, different approaches including narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion regulation, and mindfulness-based modalities could help in addressing and managing these symptoms moving forward in your life.

Your job and career may be an important part of your life, perhaps even your identity. Vocational stressors, however, can be difficult to manage and could have an impact on other areas of your life. My treatment approach is using a combination of mindfulness-based practices to learn to manage stressors at work, exploring relational problems contributing to the stress, and better time management and organization skills.

Loss can manifest in different forms in our lives. Whether it is the loss of a friendship, job, or loved one, dealing with symptoms of bereavement can be very difficult. Although you may naturally want to avoid these feelings, it is through exploration of these emotions that you can learn to regulate your emotional responses to grief. Understanding the stages of grief and how they play a role in your life is an essential part of learning to live with loss and coming to a place of acceptance.
